Dr. Chong, Dean and Professor, earned his B.Sc. in Pharmacy from the University of Delhi and a Pharm.D degree from Ferris State University, followed by an MBA degree from Wayne State University. Dr. Chong also holds a Ph.D degree in practical ministry from Heritage University & Seminary. He is a licensed pharmacist and has been practicing community and ambulatory care pharmacy practice in California, Michigan, Hawaii and Malaysia. Dr. Chong is also an ordained pastor in the US. Dr. Chong had held a number of pharmacy managerial positions at various pharmacies and corporations in different cultural settings prior to becoming a pharmacy educator. Dr. Chong is certified to provide diabetes care, asthma education, immunization delivery and professional compounding services.

Dr. Chong joined American University of Health Sciences (AUHS) School of Pharmacy (SOP) as Director of Systematic Assessment & Evaluation in 2011. Before appointed as the founding Dean of School of Pharmacy, he also held other administrative positions such as Director of Experiential Education, Program Chair for the Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences (BSPS), General Education (GE) and Master of Science in Clinical research (MSCR) programs. Dr. Chong also was an Assistant Dean and Department Chair for Clinical & Administrative Sciences at AUHS since January 2012. Before coming to AUHS, Dr. Chong worked as a founding faculty member at University of Hawaii Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy for three years.

At AUHS, Dr. Chong has implemented a number of innovative projects which includes “Brown Bag” Medication Review program, “Brand New Day” Web-based Medicare Part D Annual Comprehensive Medication Review program, clinic participation in OutcomesMTM program, AUHS Medical Pharmacy and also initiated a pharmacist-led Ambulatory Care Pharmacy practice-model at Lawndale Medical & Mental Health Clinic. All these projects help to enhance direct delivery of patient care, enhance medication adherence and to strengthen the inter-professional care approach by collaborating with other health care providers.

Dr. Chong has extensive teaching experience. He has taught numerous courses in Pharm.D, BSPS, MSCR and also BSN (Bachelor of Nursing) programs. He has good knowledge of pharmacy and regional accreditation process like ACPE, BPPE, WASC and ACICS. Dr. Chong serves at various committees at school, university levels, and in the communities. Dr. Chong currently serves as an editor and reviewer for three international journals. His research interest includes pharmacy administration and education, medication adherence, MTM program, clinical outcomes research, public health initiatives especially innovative projects that address health care disparities and access.
